Safe(r) Sex Poster Collection Funding Project on Kickstarter
Our friends at the Center for Sex & Culture’s recently launched their first-ever Kickstarter campaign. They seek to publish a book of some of the most notable and amazing images from the Buzz Bense Collection of AIDS/safe(r) sex awareness posters. Buzz was one of the founders of San Francisco safer sex clubs Eros and 890 Folsom, did graphic design (including for some of these posters), and served on the Coalition for Healthy Sex. He has amassed one of the most significant safer sex and HIV/AIDS poster collections around, and donated these materials to CSC last year. Especially as a group, they are stunning — graphically, but also historically. Thirty years out from the beginning of the epidemic that changed –and ended– so many lives, CSC wants to add this collection to the available literature, show off some of these amazing posters, supplement the information about the epidemic, and continue to raise awareness.
“These posters do more than chart the tragedy of an epidemic, of an outsider community reeling from grief, loss, and the decimation of a blooming culture of sexual liberation. The history of these posters is a story of a fight against stigma, hatred and ignorance; of a community stepping up to take care of its own; of finding a way to extinguish fear and build pride and self-esteem; and of devoted efforts of committed activists to communicate a path to health and survival.”

CSC would greatly appreciate your help in getting the word out about this project! The more funds they raise, the more images can make it into the final book, making a great project even better.
