Porn Potlucks are all the Rage…

There are a few things that I’m known for amongst my friends. My inability to stop giggling, my love of Cher and Dolly Parton films (hush, they’re awesome) and my porn and potluck parties. Yes,  Porn and Potlucks.

I actually started having my P&P’s a few years before I started working at GV. My friends and I would get together and watch whatever porno we bought at discount video stores or found in Goodwill. Now, I don’t believe that Goodwill intentionally  carried pornography, as the films were missing the covers but ‘Leather and Lace’ was an awesome find. It started as a fun way to watch classic porn with friends and provided a space where we could discuss the awfulness of bad perms and the awesomeness of a particular threesome.

Since I started working at GV, I’ve had greater access to films and I must say that the educational value of my P&P’s have gone way up. Thanks to the amazing and adorable Nina Hartley, my friends now have the knowledge to have safe and comfortable double penetration sex. Thanks to Belladonna, some of my friends have a new found adoration of feet and amazingly large glass toys.

What I’m getting at here is that porn doesn’t have to be private. Sure it’s hot to watch it alone or with your partner but some films were made for watching with a group. Case in point, “Pirates.”

I know some people don’t like “Pirates” all that much because it’s super long and sometimes you forget your watching porn, since the last sex seen was so long ago. I, however, think that is the very reason why it’s great porn. It’s like a regular film, but when it gets hot, you actually get to see the action! Sure, Evan Stone is never going to win an Oscar for his ‘acting’ but the man is funny*. There is a plot to this film and, hell, it has special effects! Again, I grant you that this is not “Pirates of the Caribbean”(or the crappy sequel), but when watching it with a group of people, it’s hilarious and truly enjoyable.

I think everyone should have a regular P&P. I do. I think it helps make a space available for people to comfortably ask questions about sex and discuss it openly with their friends. I think that if you want to have a successful P&P, it’s important to consider the following:

  1. Make sure everyone present is going to comfortable with the material! A P&P should not be surprise party for unsuspecting guests (especially if they’ve never expressed interest in this sort of thing)
  2.  Choose your films wisely. I’ve found that theme nights work best – All Jenna Jameson, DP night – feature Nina’s How to and the film Catherine (double anal DP), or films that you think your friends would benefit from seeing but would never pick up on their own (think the “The Adventures of Buck Angel”).
  3. Food is important. Thai food and Belladonna films don’t go well together. They just don’t, at least not for people new to her style. I usually require that people bring food that starts with P, in honor of the event, but it’s always nice to get sex oriented food (think boob cupcakes or penis cookies).
  4. Alcohol – Now, arguably, if you’re over 21 and you’re hanging out with your friends at a party, you’re going to want to drink. I personally take the ‘P’ theme and always provide PBR but if you’re not into that, there are a lot of cocktails that definitely go along with the nature of the event. Sex on the beach (whichever recipe you prefer), Screwhound (vodka, orange juice, grapefruit juice), and Sweet Sex (Kahlua, Irish Cream, Butterscotch Schnapps, Amaretto and Milk) are all super delicious and are perfect for the occasion. Or you can just get some wine and call it a night.

For my P&P, I typically provide the films but it’s always nice when people bring titles from their own collection. If you want an awesome service that lets you rent films – check out our rentals site:

And if you like the title, your cost of rental goes towards your purchase – how sweet is that?

best,

V

* I should note here that I am an Evan Stone Fan. With a capital ‘F.’ Sure he’s not the most beautiful man or the greatest actor (he’s almost a poor man’s Fabio) but he’s my favorite for three reasons:

1. He’s funny. Even when he’s trying to be hot and serious, the man is hilarious. Have you seen his performance as a French spy in “Tailgunners?” The though of his beret alone still makes me smile.

2. He’s not ugly. In fact, I would like to argue (and have) that he’s almost like the Brad Pitt of porn. He’s got traditional good looks (tallish, blonde hair, blue eyes and has a great body). And he’s way hotter than Randy Spears.

3. The man is talented. He can act better than most porn actors (being funny is a talent!) and performs impressively every time. Seriously, considering how many films he’s been in – the man is amazing.
