New to Porn? Where to Start on Lady Porn Day.

In honor of Lady Porn Day, I offer a perspective that may not garner much attention on such a bold day. Overcoming the taboo for women to partake in watching pornography is a significant challenge when you have not only grown up female in the United States, but also a feminist female in the United States.

The double whammy of sex-negative and anti-porn feminism is a formidable combination. Once you hack your way through the sex-negative jungle underbrush to reach a place where you can embrace a bit of sex-positivity and explore your sexuality in a healthy way, you are still faced with the enduring message that all pornography is damaging to women.

When you evolve to embrace sex-positivity and believe that enjoying sexual images is a fun part of healthy sexual wellness, finding images that match your tastes as well as those you know were created in an ethical way can seem like a challenge.

Happily, this is no longer the challenge that it once was as there are many ethical feminist pornographers creating female-directed and inspired films. For those who are interested in dipping a toe in after consciously abstaining for ethical reasons, I give you my recommendation for a sexy, fun and even educational first foray into pornography: the Expert Guide to Female Orgasms by Tristan Taormino (@TristanTaormino).

Without diving into a full review, I’ll simply say it is a fun and delicious illustration of the diversity and plenty of the female orgasm. Indulge! Enjoy! If you are still easing into the idea of partaking at all, I’ll submit to you that it is an educational video, a documentary even! It won’t take long before your consciousness is eased and you are drawn in by the pleasure, as it should be, of course. You deserve it.
