Good Releasing Interview: James Darling

What is your favorite porno of all time?

The first queer porn I ever saw was Full Load by Seeing other queer people and trans men having sex had a huge influence on me a baby queer trans man. Up until then I hadn’t seen any reflections of people with bodies and identities anything like mine being seen as hot sexual beings.

However, I think my very favorite porn is Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical, which is an incredible musical porno from the 70s. It’s every bit as amazing as it sounds.

What sex toy(s) do you like to use on film?

I really enjoy my Spareparts harness that I was given for shooting for Dolores Park Studios, and I also really like to use my Aslan Leather Commando harness. I’m a huge fan of Vixskin cocks.

My favorite toy used on me in a scene was an Sparkle plug during Bordello. It has a wonderful weight to it and I’m particularly fond of the way the rhinestone on the end looked in my ass.

If you could have a Good Vibrations Shopping Spree, what would you put in your cart?

Everything! Especially more lube like Maximus and gloves. I’ve really been wanting a Share dildo for a while. Sometimes harnesses annoy me and I’m really excited by the idea of fucking someone with a cock I can feel inside my body.

What was it like working on set for this film (with Good Releasing)?

I had a great time shooting with Courtney Trouble for Good Releasing. It was really fun and relaxed. I appreciate her willingness to take risks and make art that is absolutely stunning and hot. I’m still stoked about jerking off on a moped and get slapped around by a gun. A dream come true!

If you’ve worked with other film companies, how was that different?

I’ve shot with a few queer porn companies as well as mainstream. Everyone has their own particular ways of shooting. What I really enjoy about shooting for queer porn companies is the ability to do pretty much whatever you want to. I’ve never done anything I didn’t want to for more mainstream shoots, but the focus is a little bit more catered to the desires of straight men. I love to turn on all kinds of people, but I find it refreshing that I can wear sock garters and give blowjobs to guns or have 7 person fisting gang bangs.

My life is amazing!

If you could give one piece of sex advice, what would it be?

Take some time to explore your body and fuck around. Our bodies are incredible and we are often raised to feel a lot of shame around them. Don’t let other people’s ideas of what you should or should not do with your body dictate what all you’re capable of enjoying.

What do you believe is the biggest myth about sex?

That it’s all about having an orgasm. There’s so much more to sex than rushing to get off.

Who are your influential co-stars, directors, both folks you’ve worked with and those you’d like to work with?

I’ve really enjoyed working with Courtney Trouble, Trannywood Pictures/Dolores Park Studios,, and Shine Louise Houston. They each have their vision, style and niche in the vast universe that is queer sexuality and are wonderful people to shoot for. I’ve had the honor of working with such total babes as Cyd Loverboy, Carson, Puck Goodfellow, Tina Horn, Red, Deluxx Dash, and Vid Tuesday.

I’m really inspired by Buck Angel for blazing a trail for FTMs in the porn industry and I would love a chance to shoot with him. Mandy Mitchell for doing some creative and crazy shoots within a mainstream trans women market. I could watch Syd Blakovitch fuck all day and if Billy Castro ever wanted to fag out with me I wouldn’t say no.

How do you prepare for your sex scenes?

It usually involves a lot of prancing around in front of my mirror, listening to lil kim, deciding what underwear best highlights my assets. Making sure I’m feeling good about myself beforehand. Practicing.

What did/do you hope your performance(s) portray about sexuality?

I would hope that people would see me as one example of the vast versatile nature of trans bodies and sexuality. That transsexual men are neither all tops or bottoms and that we are gorgeous sexual beings regardless of surgical status or any other factor.

How has having access to sex-positive information and support change your life?

It’s done wonders! I only wish I had access to the resources and sex positive community in San Francisco when I was a teenager in the south. I feel empowered and supported to be a complete slut and make informed, healthy decisions about what I’m doing with my body.

What projects are you working on now?

I recently shot for Trannywood Pictures new project Dolores Park Studios and I’m also going to be working on Point of Contact for Pink and White’s Point of Contact this summer.

Where can fans find more of your work?

I’m working on setting up a website and blog but for now you can find me on Twitter at @jamesdarlingxxx for my dirty daily adventures and for more photos and events where I perform.
