Fox & ABC Don’t Want You to See Women With Curves

You may have head about the Lane Bryant ad that Fox & ABC wouldn’t air. It features curvy women with large breasts looking really, really sexy. See for yourself:

Of course, one could claim that it’s simply because they don’t want to show too much skin during American Idol or Dancing With The Stars. But as NPR.org shows, there’s plenty of skin on Dancing With The Stars. Check out these shots, taken from NPR.org:

Granted, some people might argue that there’s a difference between lingerie and a costume or a bikini, even if the visible skin is much the same. But that seems like a cop-out to me. And as this writer for the Sexist points out, women who are slender or have smaller breasts are allowed to show much more skin than curvier women without being slut-shamed.

Is it because of our attitudes towards female sexuality? What about our feelings about curvy women? Maybe there’s an erotophobia piece to this, too. Actually, I’m pretty sure that it’s all of these, intertwined around each other, but when it comes down to it, it’s sex-negative, slut shaming hypocrisy.

Can we please stop shaming women for their bodies? Please?
