Everyone Should Be So Lucky, Part 2
They left the building, and Ari took Joseph’s hand in his, and it just felt right. He led Joseph up the street, telling him that his place was just a couple blocks from where they worked. They made small talk, and Joseph tried to ignore how nervous he was\’happy, but still very nervous. He wasn’t sure what would happen once they got inside Ari’s place, if they’d just kiss some more or if they’d go further than that. Joseph didn’t know if he was ready for much more than kissing, despite the fact that he felt immense trust towards Ari. He just hoped it would go well, and that if he seemed too inexperienced (which he was) that Ari wouldn’t judge him for it. Hence an extreme attack of nerves. He did what he could to keep up his side of the conversation, but he wasn’t anywhere near loquacious.
Ari led him into an alley. He let go of Joseph’s hand to unlock the door of a small, plain-looking house, and Joseph followed him inside. The inside was quite different from the outside, much more interesting, and Joseph took it all in. There was a plain pale-blue futon set up as a couch, a beautiful bamboo coffee table in front of it, covered with books of photographs, and one made Joseph blush a little\’a Mapplethorpe collection, with a swarthy, gorgeous man on the cover, covered in muscles and not much else.
“Ah, a fan of Mapplethorpe, I see,” Ari said, nudging Joseph with his elbow. “Or at least a fan of his subjects.”
Uh, yeah, I checked out one of his books at Books and More, but it was too expensive, and I don’t exactly have a coffee table to put it on. But I like his work. I took a few photography classes in high school. I’ve always been into photography. And naked men.”
Ari laughed. “Yeah, I think we share some of the same interests. I’ve been taking a photography class at the local junior college, the professor seems to think I’m not all that bad. I’d…I’d like to take your photograph, actually, sometime, if that’s OK.”
“Yeah, sure it is. Any time.” Joseph turned to Ari, and it seemed to him like Ari’s face was lit up more than he’d ever seen it before.
“Do you think…do you think you’d be up for that right now? The light should still be pretty good in my bedroom\’it’s the only room in the house with adequate lighting. Not that I’m suggesting…”
“Oh. Oh, it would be OK if you were suggesting that, it’s just that…I haven’t…I haven’t ever…” Joseph looked down at the floor, unable to meet Ari’s eyes. Great, now Ari would probably think he was pathetic.
“You haven’t ever had sex before? Is that what you’re trying to say?” Ari cupped Joseph’s face in his hands, tilted it up towards him. “Well, everyone should be so lucky to have their first time be with someone who cares about them. And I most certainly care about you, Joseph.”
“I care about you too, Ari, it’s just that, I don’t know if I’m ready.”
“Well, we’ll just take it slow. Would you still like to have me take some pictures of you?”
“Yeah, I’d love that. Which way is your bedroom?”
“Follow me,” Ari said, and led him down a short hallway. Joseph’s stomach was full of butterflies, but there was a warmth there, too, and a warmth a few inches below it as well. He felt the beginning stages of arousal stirring in his body, felt himself get a little hard as they got to the open doorway, the one which led to Ari’s room…and who knew what else.
To be continued…
