Efforts to Defund Planned Parenthood Rejected By Senate

via NARAL

It was just announced that the US Senate rejected the attempt to defund Planned Parenthood! PP provides first line medical care to thousands of people and abortions are less than 3% of their services. But that didn’t keep people from attacking this important organization and threaten the healthcare of their clients.

We’re not out of the woods yet, so don’t relax too much. Proposed legislation H.R.3 effectively blocks private insurance plans from covering abortion care in the new health-care system. it also imposes tax penalties on small-business owners and many other individuals who purchase private insurance plans that cover abortion care. The legislation  has  enough votes to pass the House and a House Ways and Means subcommittee scheduled a hearing on it for next week.
