The Ola Vibrator Is An Award Winner!
Here at Good Vibrations, we’ve been pushing for better toy design for years. Back when I started out, almost all of the vibrators were shaped like penises, mostly because a lot of people (both manufacturers and users) thought that vibrators were meant to mimic intercourse. Of course, that’s how a lot of people use them, but many more like to hold their vibes up against the clitoris or the penis since that’s where the vibration-sensitive nerves are more dense.
It took a long time for toy designers to catch on and we’ve always been proud supporters of that shift. We’ve given feedback to makers and as they caught on to the fact that we actually listened to our customers, they eventually started soliciting our input. And when innovative designs hit the market, we were among the first to offer them to our customers. So bit by bit, toy makers have caught up, quality has improved, and designs have become much better than they used to be.
A recent article on Slate.com, Could the Fall of the Phallus Mean the Rise of a Sex Industry for Women? makes the point that
The real trend here isn’t that the sex toy industry has exiled the phallus, but rather that it’s ushered in a wider understanding of the sexual needs of all women, no matter how out-there. And the game has advanced far beyond bunny rabbits.
But even so, it’s really exciting that the Ola Touch-Responsive Vibrator has won an award from the prestigious Industrial Design Society of America! Squeezing the end controls how much it vibrates and you can even program it to whatever pattern you want. It’s made from body-safe silicone, so it’s easy to clean, and it’s rechargeable so it’s part of our Ecorotic® collection. With such great design, it’s not a surprise that it’s an award-winner, but the fact that sex toys are getting such recognition from outside the industry is yet another sign that things really are changing.
